Dating Sites Like Bumble
Are you on Bumble? That’s what all the cool kids are using these days to find a date. Or that’s what 40% of millennials are saying. They think Tinder is for hook-ups but Bumble is for dating.
But what is Bumble?
- Top Features of the OkCupid dating app: Match with singles having the same interests and passion; Mutual swipe and connect through a unique messaging system; Answer fun questions about yourself; Upgrade your dating experience; Bumble. From the many alternative dating apps to Tinder, Bumble is the one providing more than just dating.
- Bumble was first founded to challenge the antiquated rules of dating. Now, Bumble empowers users to connect with confidence whether dating, networking, or meeting friends online. We’ve made it not only necessary but acceptable for women to make the first move, shaking up outdated gender norms.

Created by Whitney Wolfe, one of the original co-founders of Tinder, Bumble has been increasingly gaining popularity over the last few years. As of early 2017, the app had over 12.5 million users who were spending an average of 100 minutes a day on the app. So even if you’ve never heard of Bumble, chances are you’ve got a few friends who are using the app.
Bumble Review :: Is It an App for Feminists?
Some say Bumble is a feminist’s answer to Tinder. Why? Well, basically because the ladies are the ones who initiate communication on the app. Just like on Tinder, users swipe left if they’re uninterested in a match and right if they are interested. If the person has also swiped right on you, then you’re a match and they’re moved into your communication section. Sounds simple enough, right? Sounds a lot like Tinder actually.
However, it’s in the communication stage where things between Bumble and Tinder start to differ. Guys cannot initiate communication with women first on Bumble. They can swipe right on them, but when it comes to messaging back and forth, women make the first move. Women have 24 hours to communicate with a match before the match expires. If they don’t reach out, they lose the match and cannot retrieve it.
Gender role reversal? Feministic? Yes to both. But we’ve also heard women say they like this system better because it cuts down on the unwanted advances they can get from guys via dating apps. Although, we’d argue that men can be the victim of unwanted advances from women, too.
Bumble Review :: Our Favorite Feature
Technically, Bumble doesn’t let you know in advance if a match swipes right on you—unless you pay a monthly fee (see below). But what they do give you is a scrambled, pixelated stack of photos who have swiped right on your profile. It sounds weird, but it’s kinda fun to look at the fuzzy photo and try to determine which match it was that said yes to you. If there’s a lot of blue and white and green in the photo, you’ll know it’s not the Jane / John Doe in the fluorescent pink shirt at the top of your match stack. Since Tinder and other apps never let you know who swiped right if you don’t reciprocate, Bumble gamifies it a bit and helps you figure out which match is interested in you before you ever have to express interest in them.
Bumble Review :: Price
Like nearly all dating apps, you can use Bumble for free. However, you can purchase coins in the app. Those coins run $1.99 each, but you can get a discount if you purchase them in increments of 5, 10, or 20. The coins will allow you to do things like SuperSwipe, where you can stand out to the people you like. You can also use coins to pay for things like being notified the moment someone swipes right on you, reopening communication if the 24 hours has lapsed, or so you can take more than 24 hours to communicate with a match.
Bumble Review :: Bottom Line
From a user standpoint, we like Bumble better than Tinder. The matches feel like they’re a higher quality and matches do seem to be slightly more serious about dating—although app fatigue is a real thing and it’s just as easy to get tired of swiping on Bumble as it is on any other dating app.
However, conservative Christians who believe that the guy should pursue the girl might have issues with a system like Bumble where the woman makes the first move. Granted, both parties have already swiped and expressed interest in each other, so it’s not like the woman is striking up a conversation with a complete stranger who doesn’t share her interest.
If Bumble isn’t your cup of tea, the beauty of this day and age is that there are plenty of other online dating options available to you. Check out our list of the Best Christian Dating Sites to see what online dating sites Christians are using and finding the most like-minded matches.
